APO Alumni 2014
The Alumni meeting of The Academy of Patient Organizations (APO) opened new ways of dialogue between deputies of the Czech health care system and patients
The first unique APO Alumni meeting was held in the Residence of U.S. Ambassador in Prague, October 2. Deputies of the Czech health care system met with representatives of patient organizations (PO). The U.S. Ambassador Andrew Shapiro made his first public appearance in the Czech Republic after his inauguration.
Stakeholders and patients at one place
The invitation was accepted by more than 50 representatives of PO and deputies of the Czech health care system: Mr. Josef Vymazal (deputy of the minister of Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic), Mr. Petr Honěk (General Health Care Insurance Company), Mrs. Irena Storová (State Institute for Drug Control) and Mrs. Alena Šteflová (head of WHO Czech Republic). All guests have declared institutional support for patient’s activities as participation in working groups (Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic), in ethics committee (General Health Care Insurance Company) or more open-minded partnership (State Institute for Drug Control). Alena Šteflová from WHO has announced her effort to provide networking of Czech patient organizations with European patient unions.
Patient organizations needs, activities and plans have been introduced by Mrs. Marie Ředinová from Czech ILCO (stoma), Eva Knappová from Breast Cancer Alliance and Karel Vedral from Czech Rheumatic Disease Associates.
