APO Alumni 2023
ALUMNI Meeting has Concluded the 11th Year
of the Academy of Patient Organizations
The Academy of Patient Organizations has had another successful year. And it finished the year in style on 6 December in the representative premises of the US Ambassador's Residence in Bubeneč. We are very grateful to His Excellency, Mr. Bijan Sabet, for allowing us all to meet there. According to US Ambassador Sabet, the role of patient organizations is irreplaceable in the healthcare system and society, and it is meeting other stakeholders that brings mutual understanding. Early access and information about innovative therapies is crucial for patients, said the US Ambassador at the opening of APO ALUMNI.
This year, APO, which has been in the Czech Republic for 11 years, opened a number of topics. These included in particular the issue of patients' access to information about treatment options and the regulation of advertising and the relevant law, which needs to be changed.
This year, the prestigious European programme EUPATI, which represents a new educational platform for representatives of patient organizations as well as patients themselves, has also been fully launched in the Czech Republic. At the APO ALUMNI meeting, David Kolář, Director of AIFP, also reminded that the issue of financing patient organizations still remains unresolved. Personally, he considers it important that if the activities of patient organisations in the Czech Republic are to be stable and sustainable in the long term, they should also be sufficiently funded.
