Networking III.: Management of Patient Organizations
Dear representatives of patient organizations,
The third APO networking meeting of patient organizations took place on Friday, 4 June 2021. Five organizations shared their experience with how to become a professional organization, how to effectively manage the organization, how to work as a team, how to distribute work, etc. The meeting was attended, in person and online, by almost 50 representatives of patient organizations. The meeting was moderated by Vanda Kofroňová, an experienced Czech Television moderator.
The main outputs and recommendations from the meeting are as follows:
-
The organization’s strategic meetings attended by patients, who are not a part of management, in order to obtain other, often also innovative, opinions
-
To follow patients’ opinion on social networks and not to be afraid to contact and ask the most active ones to cooperate
-
To seek slightly burned-out managers from the business sector
-
To have a right-hand person and to share competences with him/her
-
To have a list of main management point to hand it over to a new management, if necessary
-
To let co-workers do their work and to realize that they do it their own way
-
To hire a fundraising person and to get him/her involved in the organization as much as possible so that he/she could inspire and engage others
-
It is important to seriously think about whether I really want to manage the nonprofit organization in a professional manner (and thus give up certainty)
-
To use local sources as much as possible
